‘Teenager’ Film

As part of a wide ranging commission for Compulsive Productions (a community film production company) I was to photograph a location film shoot for the short film ‘Teenager’. The film was scripted, crewed and acted by teenagers with the help of Compulsive and told the story of a teenager’s struggle with alcohol, drug abuse and peer pressure. My role with the production was to take film stills and to document the cast and crew behind the scenes.

Antique Fashion

ZoZo Reworked Vintage create unique items from reworked vintage garments and fabric and commissioned me to shoot a selection of outfits in a local antique shop and garden. From the start it was clear the client felt that due to the style of garments and the location it was important to have a vintage visual aesthetic with the photography and as such both 35mm film and Polaroids were used. Utilising both natural light and a selection of lenses to suit the different situations it was possible to create the final images with the required sense of age and warmth with rich natural colours, soft light and strong contrast.

Winter

Recently I was asked by the nationally distributed +1 Magazine to provide suitable images for a portfolio feature article. I had previously completed a collection of photos entitled ‘Winter’ that were formed from a single medium format film with a sequence of continuously overlapping exposures of a group of winter trees. Once the article had been published I received many commissions for prints from this collection.

The Big Push

Every year a collection of UK skateboarding companies enter in to the Big Push competition to travel across the country and film their team of skateboarders. Once the trip is complete they individually edit a video segment for a DVD that is then cover mounted on an internationally available magazine. Blueprint Skateboards are the UK’s highest profile skateboard company and commissioned me to provide still images for their particular section of the DVD. The Blueprint section featured a lo-fi aesthetic (both visually and with the music - including Dinosaur Jr) and the film photography supported that desired theme.

Paint and Illustrate

David Dixon, aka Dist.One, is an internationally exhibited artist and illustrator with a huge portfolio of beautiful work and high profile clients. As a photographer himself David knew he wanted film photography as opposed to digital for portraiture stills for various print magazine interviews. With a strong undercurrent of organic physicality, rich colours and dark contrast within his own work the use of film was the most appropriate medium to capture the artist himself.

Compose at Home

Mark Harman is a solo multi-instrumentalist who records music in his home studio under the name Once a Super Hero. Mark commissioned me to produce a selection of film photography for future use in print and on the web and working together we decided to try and capture Mark at work in his home studio working on new material.

Mark’s studio was a small spare room in his house, barely big enough for Mark, his computer and his instruments so I decided to work without a flash and use a small bedside lamp to help focus closely on Mark’s intense creativity and musicianship, trying to also highlight how Mark primarily works alone in to the late hours of night.
